Grupo Costa enters the beer sector with the acquisition of Oliba Green Beer, the first green olive beer in the world

(Fraga, 03/2022) Grupo Costa is entering the beer sector with the purchase of Oliba Green Beer, the first olive beer in the world, naturally made from local Pyrenean olives. This drink, characterised by its surprising green colour, is distinguished by the unique flavour of the area’s local olive varieties. It does not contain gluten, which makes it suitable for coeliacs.

Grupo Costa is already widely present in the food production sector through the meat holding Costa Food Group and Bodega Sommos, of DO Somontano. Its CEO, Jorge Costa, explains that the addition of Oliba Green Beer “complements the product portfolio, at the same time as it offers consumers a groundbreaking yet one hundred percent natural alternative, one of our principles as a group. We are very proud to launch a Mediterranean drink, created in the Pyrenees, which surprises with its colour, aroma, flavour and quality”.

Oliba Green Beer is traditionally crafted to offer a refreshing, smooth and 5% alcohol product, with noticeable olive notes. Its low alcohol content makes it a light beer, designed for all audiences, which pleases beer lovers and new consumers alike.

A well-known beer with a profile for exportation

It has two incarnations: The Original One, a light beer with a mild, special taste and a refined aroma with a subtle olive touch, and The Empeltre One, made with olives from Lower Aragon and more intense in unctuousness as well as taste and colour. In 2020, the brand was awarded the Superior Olive Oil School (ESAO) Prize for Innovation and the Prize for Technological Innovation in Food Production (PITA).

Oliba Green Beer’s production centre, located in Lleida, is currently immersed in a process of expansion to supply domestic and international markets, as the project was born with a strong export vocation.
